Scottish Ensemble to deliver music workshop to local pupils
The internationally-renowned, Glasgow-based string orchestra has devised a bespoke workshop for S5-S6 pupils preparing for their SQA Higher Music exam.
The interactive workshop combines live performance by a quartet of Scottish Ensemble musicians with digital and smart technology, in the form of a specially-designed app which the pupils can then use to reinforce learning after the workshop.

Hide AdThe workshop is based on the premise that experiencing and hearing sounds up close, at their most powerful, offers an experience that will stay with pupils for longer as they prepare for their exams.
Hearing and seeing professional musicians performing a range of musical concepts, as opposed to listening to a CD, offers an experience which pupils will remember more easily.
Pupils will also deepen their understanding of musical elements by unpicking the music and putting it back together, a means of embedding learning and new knowledge.
On Friday morning, an experienced workshops leader and composer, Eve Harrison, will lead pupils through a range of musical works from different periods and give them tools to help identify elements such as structure, period, phrasing and special techniques.

Hide AdFraser Anderson, chief executive of Scottish Ensemble, said: “Having received positive feedback from both students and teachers at the schools we visited in February 2017, I am very pleased that we are able to share our bespoke Listen Live workshop with even more Higher students this year.
“One of the best things about this workshop is the inspiration factor. Our belief in the power of live performance is something that guides all of our work, from creative learning projects to events, and to be able to bring outstanding string musicians directly to the classroom is a real pleasure.”
