Sports council chairman Millar Stoddart met George in Blackpool last week, discovering that the four-time Scotland cap had actually starred as an outfield player during his early days in football with the Lanark Grammar team.
PE teacher and Forth resident, the late Duncan Blair, encouraged George to become a goalkeeper.
