Alternative festive family fun

The southside venue is hosting its first winter family show, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s folk tale The Red Shoes and created and performed by Glasgow’s own Judith Williams.

Judith’s version, Red Shoes, is a non-religious, culturally diverse take on a Christmas event, inviting the southside community to come together in celebration of an alternative to the snowy season.

Joined by friends from the city and the forest (see? diverse!), our heroine Judy Two Shoes is on a journey through a magical world, taking in giant butterflies and knee-high skyscrapers — with songs, live music and interactive performances throughout.

Judith explained: “Audience engagement is crucial to create a true, lasting and genuine connection between Judy Two Shoes and our young audience, so the story lives between us.

“We are sharing time and space in winter to open our hearts and soothe our minds. We’re walking the red shoe path with ideas of courage, trust, honesty and sustainability with a deep wish to nurture instinct and to encourage us all to listen to the little voices that speak deeper truths.”

It may not be traditional seasonal panto — but Red Shoes looks set to be a heartfelt and creative piece, and guaranteed to entertain festive spirits young and old.
