Glasgow Music Theatre are back, providing another high quality amateur production to grace the Giffnock stage. You may have caught them in Little Shop of Horrors, West Side Story, Fame or A Chorus Line — now it’s time for a trip back to the 60s, for broadway show How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

Newton Mearns resident Neil Campbell may have given up professional acting to teach (although not before a stint in the acclaimed Black Watch) — but he’s suited and booted and ready to bluff his way up the corporate ladder as J Pierrepont Finch, a window cleaner turned big businessman.

Neil is delving into the role head-first, commenting: “Finch is not instantly likeable and the biggest challenge will be to create someone who the audience roots for, despite his flaws. When you have a character who barely leaves the stage, you really get a chance to develop him fully.”

Relishing the production’s Mad Men aesthetic is director Nicola Coffield, from Pollokshields — a designer by day.

Nicola said: “For years I’ve been GMT’s unofficial style consultant, so I’m thrilled to be directing a production focused on that sexy 1960s style.”

Glasgow Music Theatre have been impressing audiences since forming in 2009, providing a professional edge to the world of amateur theatre, and tackling ambitious productions for the Giffnock stage — making How To Succeed one to watch.

The show runs Jan 28 - Feb 1, 7.30pm. Tickets are £10-£14.50 from 577 4956 or www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk.
