Ana's having fun being a make-up artist to the stars

A make-up artist has revealed some of the famous faces she has worked with - including David Tennant, Rod Stewart and Elaine C Smith.

Ana Cruzalegui (37), from Milngavie, originally trained in illustration at art school in San Francisco.

She had always loved make-up and took a job at a make-up counter in a store after she graduated.

Then she was offered work at Fox News before her career took off with MAC Cosmetics and as a freelance at the BBC.

Ana was born in Peru and lived in LA before moving to Scotland, which she says is a great place to raise a family.

She married Alastair two years ago and they have a 20-month-old daughter, Josefina, with another baby on the way.

Ana said: “Once you’ve lived in Glasgow I think it’s very hard to live anywhere else. Scotland is really lovely and I’ve met some great people since moving to Milngavie.”

Busy mum Ana has done the make-up in music videos for bands such as Ladytron, Idlewild and Camera Obscura.

She was the lead make-up designer for the ceremonies at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow two years ago, when she was responsible for Rod Stewart’s make-up - and thousands of other performers.

Ana, who also met Lulu, James McAvoy and Kylie Minogue at the event, led a team of nearly 40 make-up and hair staff.

She said: “It was incredibly hard work. I was pregnant at the time, but it was a great experience.

“I was completely mesmerised by Rod Stewart and I understand why women flock to him!

“He was very quiet but he has a spark and you can tell he’s a funny guy and really lovely.”

She also worked for Celebrity Antiques Road Trip, doing the make-up for celebrities such as Jodie Kidd, James Martin and Fern Britton.

One of Ana’s favourite personalities is Elaine C Smith, who she felt she “had known her for her entire life” when she met her.

Ana says she is “a very genuine and kind person” and made her laugh all the time they were together.

Ana has also worked with clothes designer Stella McCartney, the daughter of music legend Paul McCartney, when she held a fashion shoot in Nairn, near Inverness, last year.

Ana says it was a fantastic location and Stella was amazing to work with.

Hardworking Ana was also the lead make-up artist at the Edinburgh International Fashion Festival for the past five years which attracts designers from all over the world including Pam Hogg, Issy Miyake and Karen Mabon.

She particularly enjoyed working on a tribute to Alexander McQueen one year.
