At 7.30pm on Sunday, February 7, over 25 MPs from across the political spectrum will be acting as quizmasters for the World’s Biggest Quiz, an identical quiz taking place in pubs, clubs and bars across the UK.

Organised by PubAid, in conjunction with JustGiving, the aim of the evening is to raise money for hundreds of good causes and charity. A secondary aim is to try and break the Guinness World Record for the largest multi-venue quiz.

Over 1340 pubs have already signed up and PubAid estimate that between 50,000 and 75,000 pub quizzers will be participating, with over 900 different charities benefiting from the evening’s activity.

A number of pubs across Scotland are participating, including the Carron Works and The Shore in Falkirk, the Windsor and Station hotels in Kirkcaldy, Lochgelly Golf Club, the Criterion Bar in St Andrews and the Dixon Arms in Glenrothes.

MPs acting as quizmasters include Andrew Griffiths, MP for Burton and Uttoxeter, Tommy Sheppard, MP for Edinburgh East, Ruth Smeeth, MP for Stoke-on-Trent North and Kidsgrove and David Warburton, MP for Somerton and Frome.

Co-founder of PubAid, Keith Knowles, said: “We’re delighted that so many pubs have signed up and I’m personally delighted that so many MP’s are supporting the event but more importantly, our aim is for each pub to use the quiz evening as a fun method of raising money for charity and spreading the word about the great work pubs do every year for good causes.”

Anne-Marie Huby, managing director and co-founder of JustGiving, said: “Pubs raise over £100 million each year for charity. Accordingly we are delighted to be partnering with PubAid to help pubs across the UK raise money for great causes. The British Pub is an institution that is perfectly placed to galvanise communities to come together to do good.”
