Biggar Little Festival grows even bigger

The latest festival, on from Thursday, October 20, to Sunday, October 30, features more than 70 events including drama, comedy, dance, puppetry, music, exhibitions, books, ceramics, fine art and open workshops.

Events involving food, beer and gin are also on the menu.

The line-up includes Perthshire-born comedian Fred MacAulay fresh from delighting audiences at the 2016 Edinburgh Festival.

Biggar audiences also have the chance to be a super trouper by singing along to tribute act Abba Mania.

Theatrical events include the dark comedy Gingerbread Lady by Paul Simon and the life story of Judy Garland in Beyond the Rainbow, as well as Biggar Theatre Workshop’s The Long and Short of It.

Musical entertainment will see Skippinish, rated by some as being among Scotland’s finest folk musicians, in concert, as well as The Rite of Spring, a jazzy treatment of Igor Stravinsky’s masterpiece by the David Patrick Octet.

The Dukes of Uke and Lionel Richie and John Martyn tribute acts are also on the bill.

The festival again has a wide variety of arts and crafts workshops and exhibitions by Biggar schools on offer.

Biggar Beer and Gin Festival, being hosted by the town’s Crown Inn will offer the chance to sample 24 real ales, 12 craft beers, four ciders and 2o different types of gin.

Free events include the biggest-ever Biggar Day Out.

There will be music in streets and bars and art exhibitions in shops and venues throughout this year’s festival, the 14th to be held since the event’s launch in 2003.

Youngsters can make and fly kites at Biggar’s first kite festival, climb an ice wall or take a bush trail.
