This stars Alison Peebles, who was best known for her roles in Taggart before being diagnosed with MS in 2006. Alison has continued working despite her health problems, with her latest venture being the title role in Bertolt Brecht’s classic.

Mother Courage is one of nine plays written by Brecht during the rise of fascism and the onset of World War II. Written largely in protest against the Nazi invasion of Poland, it is considered among the greatest anti-war plays ever written.

The story takes place in the 17th century, during the Thirty Years’ War, a bitter conflict that ravaged the lands that became Germany. Swedish Army canteen worker Anna Fierling. - “Mother Courage” - seeks to profit from the war, by trading with soldiers.

Anna has three children. Swiss Cheese, Eilif, and Kattrin, all of whom she loses to the war over the course of the play.

The following day, Saturday March 26, the Theatre will also present a modern dance production entitled Miranda, by the Chordelia Dance Company. Described as a “psychological thriller”, Miranda is the story of spoiled little rich girl Miranda. Weary of a cloistered life of dinner parties and deceit, she wanders off and ends up alone in a cold snowy landscape, where a well-lit house can be seen. Gradually she realises she is not so alone after all...
