Build a bogie for Hawksland annual race

The annual Hawksland Hill Run, which takes place on Sunday, July 12, will have a series of competitions for non-powered bogies, carties, sidecars, luge and gravity bikes to compete down the 800 metre course.

And it’s not too late to build your own bogie and compete.

Organiser Stuart Sommerville said: “This will be our fourth year and we now have more competitors coming from further afield.

“A lot of entrants don’t officially register until the last few weeks so there is still time to enter.

“We are hoping that the weather will be kind and that the public will come out.

“The only year we were unfortunate was the year Andy Murray won Wimbledon and we had our event on the same day!

“Street luge professionals will be there and I’m hoping to have a go myself.”

One man who knows more than most about the Hill Run is Graham Mays.

Graham, along with partner Irene, has triumphed on two occasions and is hoping that more people will take part this year.

“A lot of hard work is put in to make the event a success,” said Graham. “One reason we do it is to raise funds for charities. It’s always a great day.”

The road will be closed at 8.30am. Funds raised will be split between Macmillan Cancer Care and Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. For information email Stuart [email protected]
