“It’s a long way from TOWIE,” said Jo, who was followed by a camera crew for three months.

Jo shares a ministry with her husband Stephen and the couple are regularly working with a wide variety of people, from community volunteers to youths to homeless drug addicts. The programme documents all of this while also featuring more personal times, such as discovering she was expecting her third child.

“One thing I was very keen to put across with this programme, and I think it came through, was to show that Cumbernauld really is a great place to live, as a lot of people have a negative impression of it. It wasn’t about blowing my own trumpet.”

The Salvation Army was also the focus of a documentary aired last night, God’s Cadets on BBC4.

Jo said: “Traditionally the Salvation Army hasn’t done a lot of television because we’re about helping people, not self-publicity. However a lot of people don’t understand how many things we do.”
