Change of venue for children's favourites

SCOTLAND'S most famous children's entertainers, The Singing Kettle, have announced their next show will NOT be held at Cumbernauld Theatre.

The enduring showbiz phenomenon cites a change in policy as the reason they have switched to another venue, Greenfaulds High School.

The Singing Kettle have entertained kids since the 1970s and have brought their live shows to generations of theatregoers in Cumbernauld Theatre over the course of their careers, which have seen them rise to become one of the UK's top box office draws, receiving MBEs and even a Royal Command Performance for the Jordanian Royal Family.

However it would seem relations with Cumbernauld Theatre have recently soured as the Kettle has announced a change of venue with Greenfaulds High now hosting the Kettle's new show, Calamity Castle, on May 15-16.

David McQuillan, marketing manager for the Singing Kettle, explained the reason for the venue change.

He said "Over the past three or four years we have had increasing difficulty in obtaining date availability at the theatre due to a change in programming policy at the venue.

"We were very disappointed to miss out for a couple of years not to be able to include Cumbernauld in out tour schedule as we always get a fantastic response and reception from the local audiences.

"Cumbernauld Theatre was one of the first venues The Singing Kettle started touring to.

"We are delighted that we were able to agree dates at Greenfaulds and to be returning to Cumbernauld this year with our Calamity Castle Show.

"The staff and management of Greenfaulds have been great to deal with and we are looking forward to the visit."
