Clarkston's Lisa is on fitness crusade

ScottishPower employee Lisa (36) took part in an exclusive Pretty Muddy training session at Eaglesham’s Whitelee windfarm with US TV personality and fitness expert Jessie Pavelka.

Jessie put Lisa and a squad of her fellow ScottishPower employees through their paces to help them prepare for the gruelling event.

Run by Cancer Research, it takes place on in Bellahouston Park on Saturday, September 16.

Lisa was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, and knows all too well the importance of raising money for such a worthwhile cause.

She said: “I was all geared up to take part in Pretty Muddy back in 2015 but, after my diagnosis and starting my treatment, my doctor advised against it as I was in the middle of chemotherapy.

“I feel so lucky that two years on, I’m getting together with my friends and fellow ScottishPower employees to take on the obstacle course – completing the race will feel like such a huge achievement.

“Nothing prepares you for that moment when you are told ‘it’s cancer’.

“I was devastated and could not have got through it without the love and support from my family and friends.

“They were my source of strength and were always by my side when I needed to laugh or cry.

“My baby boy, Lewis, was only 20 months old at the time and I knew he needed his mummy to be fit and well.

“Research is so important and I have personally benefitted from the work of Cancer Research UK which has helped shape my ongoing treatment”.

“Being diagnosed with cancer has taught me to live life to the fullest and grab every opportunity that comes my way.

“In the last two years I’ve recruited a group of friends, family and employees to walk the West Highland Way and I’ve taken part in a charity fashion show which raised around £400,000 in the fight against cancer.

“Now I’m lucky enough to be training with Jessie Pavelka which has been an amazing experience.”

She added: “I’ve spent two months taking his advice on fitness tips, how to maintain a healthy diet and the importance of connecting family and friends to help me on my own individual journey.”
