Country waltz as it was over at the ABC

Anyone for a spot of alt country music?

Then you’re in luck, because the man dubbed the ‘twisted Godfather’ of the British alternative country scene is in town.

Hank Wangford has been peddling his brand of country waltz for 20 years — and he’s back with new material to remind audiences just how daring the waltz was back in the day, as dancers who barely touched were brought ever closer on the dance floor.

He said: “Nowadays the Waltz is seen as far from mad, bad and dangerous to know — more as middle-aged and suburban, as sexy as a pair of M&S trousers. But the waltz is the waymark from rock ‘n roll to country. I want to celebrate it.”

Hank Wangford plays the O2 ABC on May 15. Tickets from 0844 477 2000.
