Cumbernauld-filmed Outlander starts airing in USA

Outlander, the big-budget American TV drama partially filmed in Cumbernauld, has set new audience records for its US television network.

The show, about a Second World War nurse being transported through time to 18th century Scotland, attracted 2.3 million viewers during its premiere on the subscription-based Starz cable channel.

US magazine Entertainment Weekly also reported that the figure increases to 3.7 million once all alternative viewing platforms such as on demand and online were taken into account. Despite being an adaptation of Diane Gabaldon’s romance novel which is read primarily by women, almost equal numbers of both sexes have been tuning in to the television version.

There is as yet no word of when the show will be available to viewers in the UK.
