Cumbernauld’s Vagabond Poets are back with new single

CUMBERNAULD band Vagabond Poets are looking forward to the release of their new single, Icarus, available to download from January 17.

It’s all change for the Vagabond Poets. This will be their first release as a three-piece with former lead singer Scott Parker having left to concentrate on his studies. Rather than recruit a replacement, they have been working hard for months to redevelop their setlist and believe they have achieved a “new, more dramatic, sound”.

The band - who gelled through their experiences with Whitelees School of Rock - are Carlos Hernandez and Jack Boyce, who are both 17 and attend Abronhill High School, and Jack’s older brother Luke, who is 20.

Luke said: “With a change in style, the new songs and plans to get back into the studio, we feel we’re ready to take the next step up. We have a number of gigs booked around the country and will be looking to land one or two decent festival slots in the summer. We came within a week of making our TV debut a while ago until the production got pulled, so hopefully something like that will come around again.

“The style is more varied than ever. We have a thumping rhythm section and a lot of reverb and echo on the guitar but we’ve introduced three part harmonies and some folk and blues influences that weren’t there before.”

The Vagabond Poets are developing a far-flung fanbase and Icarus has already been previewed on American and French radio stations.

“You’re never quite sure how people find you among thousands of bands worldwide but the DJ at KKFI Radio in Kansas City has been playing our stuff regularly for a while now (including back to back plays on Christmas morning) and the online feedback after the airplay at United Radio in Texas was very positive across the south and midwest USA. Maybe we should move there.”

To mark the launch of their single, Vagabond Poets will perform at Stereo in Glasgow on January 17. Tickets are £6.
