Dancers out for the Count

There’s dance with a bit of bite at Tramway this week as the Marc Bruce Company brings Dracula to Pollokshields.

The Count is roaming free for Halloween — and bringing an eclectic mix of musical and dance genres to lure and seduce Glasgow audiences.

The 10-strong company has received rave reviews for bringing Bram Stoker’s haunting, erotic and rather eternal tale to life using everything from Bach and Mozart to Fred Frith, classical dance to contemporary styles.

Jonathan Goddard dons some sharp teeth as Dracula, whose sinister ambitions shake conservative Victorian society to its core — forcing the heroes to face the darkness within before they can defeat the most infamous of vampires.

With the South Bank Sky Arts Award for Dance under its belt, this production is one to watch — so with only a three night run, horror and dance fans alike are advised to snap up a ticket before it (dearly) departs.

Tramway are particularly keen to attract young (and brave) theatregoers to the production, with in-residence youth companies Junction 25 and BRAVE GENERATION hosting a spooky pre-show event.

The Trick or Treat? Halloween special — for ages 14-18 — takes place before tonight’s (Thursday’s) performance, with a chance to get gory making decorations and even learn the dance to Michael Jackson’s Thriller (a must for any Halloween fan worth their protective salt).

As for Dracula, curtain up is at 7.30pm Thursday-Saturday (Oct 30 - Nov 1) and tickets are £15/£12 conc from 0845 330 3501.
