Dead good October lined up in East Renfrewshire

Scottish novelist Christopher Brookmyre will headline the countdown to Halloween by hosting a discussion on his new novel The Way of All Flesh on October.

Brookmyre will return to his Barrhead roots with the event at The Foundry, with medical historian and consultant anesthetist, Dr Marisa Haetzman, who collaborated with him on the historical crime book, written under the pseudonym of Ambrose Parry.

Meanwhile, super sleuths are invited to solve murder mysteries in two thrilling events, The Lost Soul of the Lingering Laird on 27 October and Carry on Sleuthing on 12 October.

Jude Smith from East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure, said: “We’re counting down to the spookiest day of the year with our Dead Good October season and we have a whole host of Halloween events.

“We’re delighted to welcome Scottish author Christopher Brookmyre and Dr Marisa Haetzman to speak about their new collaboration.

“Ghost hunters can join a team of detectives for a Scottish-themed murder mystery evening The Lost Soul of the Lingering Laird on Saturday 27 October at Eastwood House. The show features a kilted ghost, phantom bagpiper and murderer on the loose and the ghoulishly good event will include a buffet and bar drink so you can feel refreshed as you plot to solve the crime.

“Meanwhile, carry on sleuthing comedy murder mystery night comes to Giffnock Library on Friday 12 October. You can join amateur sleuth Letita Luvibod to solve the murder of underwear businessman Silas Bounce. Listen to the evidence, laugh at the jokes and find the clues to track down the killer at this BYOB event.”

Eastwood Park is also hosting a trio of spook-tacular baby discos on the Halloween weekend so you can bring your little pumpkins, fairies and ghouls along to play party games, boogie to the beats and do the monster mash.

A relaxed screening of family favourite Monsters Inc comes to the big screen at Eastwood Park Theatre on 14 October, suitable for children with Additional Support Needs or anyone seeking a more relaxed environment to watch a family film.

Plus, on 31 October itself Eastwood Park Theatre is bringing a real treat with Halloween favourite film Hocus Pocus back to the big screen for one night only!
