Eros Musical Society announce new production

Eros Musical society (Formerly known as East Renfrewshire Operatic society) are busy rehearsing for their latest stage production, “Sister Act” at East Kilbride Village Theatre, running from September 17-21.

Some of the cast plan to get into character with a ‘nun run’ from the theatre to East Kilbride’s Shopping Centre, at 12 o’clock on August 17, exactly a month before the show starts.

Maureen Driscoll, Eros President, said: “It’s just a bit of fun, really, to promote our show and let people know that it’s happening, although some of our friends (I hope) will also be sponsoring us, to help raise funds for our club. I’m not sure that everyone on the run will be keeping up a fast pace, but we’ll all be very enthusiastic! I have no doubt it will be an eye catching sight!

Sister Act is based on the 1992 hit film of the same name, starring Whoopi Goldberg.

The plot surrounds Deloris Van Cartier, a fast talking, aspiring club singer, who witnesses a mob murder.

In order to protect her before she testifies against the killer, she is placed by a witness protection programme into a convent. With a few twists and turns, fun ensues when her presence has much more influence at the convent than anyone could have predicted.

The film Sister Act was a phenomenal success in 1992. Sister Act the musical continues to play to packed audiences around the world with its fabulous gospel, boogie and rock songs and lively, bouncy comedy.

Maureen continued: “It’s a great show, sometimes truly moving and other times really funny, with amazing dancing and very challenging six-part harmony for our chorus to get stuck into.

Great fun to watch! I’m also looking forward to seeing the nun run from the theatre to the shopping centre. Not something you see very often!”

The production runs at the East Kilbride Village Theatre from 17th to 21st September at 7.30 each night, with an extra matinee on Saturday 21st September at 2.30.

Tuesday, Wednesday evenings and Saturday matinee tickets are £15 pounds, and Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings are £16.50
