First of 2015 from the Southside Film Fest

The Film Fest’s regular film club is back at the Glad Cafe on January 20 for Death Watch — and there’s more than one local connection for the first flick of the season.

The 1979 Harvey Keitel film was shot in Glasgow and also stars Rutherglen-born Robbie Coltrane — and this screening has special significance for the Southside Film Fest, as it teams up with BFI Sci-Fi to show it (visit bfi.org.uk/scifi for more info).

There’s more collaboration in February, this time with the Scottish Queer International Film Festival (SQIFF). Hole drummer Patty Schemel is the subject for Hit So Hard, again showing at the Shawlands venue.

March has a music theme with The Possibilities are Endless, about Edwin Collins’ recovery and the power of music and love, and in April Sound It Out — a documentary about the last remaining record store in Teeside — gets an airing in the run up to Record Store Day.

But before that, the fest team are plunging into the deep in with Glasgow Comedy Festival screenings at Govanhill Baths.

The swimming pool-turned-arts venue will host audiences for Withnail & I, Best in Show, In the Loop and The Bill Hicks Story — a must for comedy fans.

Southside Film Festival director Karen O’Hare describes the group’s screenings as “an opportunity for people to see different films in a different, more intimate environment, providing a quality cinematic experience in the southside of Glasgow” — and with the latest line-up, seems set to continue with sell-out shows.
