Folk legend to top bill at Kilsyth festival

ONE of Scotland's most successful folk musicians will headline the final day of this year's BIG KIC Festival in Kilsyth.

Organisers have confirmed that Dougie MacLean, perhaps best known for his patriotic anthem Caledonia, will close the festival on August 15.

Jill Stevenson, artistic director for the BIG KIC, said: "Dougie MacLean is a musical hero and a truly extraordinary performer with many inspiring tales to tell.

"We are delighted to have him closing the BIG KIC festival and his performance will be the perfect end to a perfect summer festival."

Known the world over for his unique 'roots based' songwriting, MacLean's songs have been covered by a whole host of artists from Paulo Nutini to Frankie Miller.

Caledonia was adopted as the theme song for the 2009 Homecoming Scotland initiative and featured in a television advert starring Sean Connery, Lulu and other well-known Scottish faces.

Regarded as Scotland's pre-eminent singer-songwriter, Dougie will take to the stage in the 1,200 capacity Big Top tent in Colzium Estate as part of the Kilsyth International Carnival, which is one of four major events taking place within the grounds between August 13 and 15.
