Food Review: StrEATery Glasgow Spook Feast

With Glasgow still lagging behind on the market front, foodies tend to jump feet first into dedicated festivals.

Such is the case with StrEATery, a new monthly event at The Briggait, bringing together the street food stalls you’ve come to know and love with a few up-and-comers.

The Other Half and I headed to Aye Love Real Food first, sampling an ample portion of meatballs in a rich pepper sauce. It’s a good job there was a hunk of bread provided, or I’d have been licking the container — a great start to an afternoon of top nibbles.

Mighty Mexican had burritos and tacos galore, but we opted for crunchy nachos with a smattering of cheese, tangy pico de gallo and both red and green salsa — messy fingers all round, but absolutely worth it.

It was on next to Edinburgh stall Fresh Revolution for a taste of savoury and sweet. The other half tucked into a meaty buffalo burger - a messy concoction of crumbling mince and peppery leaves that he happily wolfed down.

I opted for a fitting pumpkin pie, which divided opinion; I loved it, he wasn’t so sure. Sweet, buttery and heavy on spice, it was right up my street — bring them back to Glasgow soon please and thanks, Fresh Revolution.

Our final eats were from the very busy La Petite Creperie; mine, a gooey Nutella-filled pancake fresh off the griddle, while the OH enjoyed his first taste of caramel-rich biscuit spread — the kind of nibbles you imagine eating on a winter’s day out, maybe post-ice skating and pre-mulled wine.

Glasgow may just have cottoned on to the street food concept but we’re moving up fast, and this month’s StrEATery proved to be all treat — all I can say is, bring on the Christmas event.
