Get in line for the bar at village beer fest

Beer fans are counting down the days until next Saturday and a trip to Eaglesham, for the village’s first ever festival dedicated to the foamy stuff.

Organised by writerFraser Wilson, Eaglesham Beer Fest coincides with Eaglesham Fair on June 6, with an array of Scotland’s best food and drink on offer — and free entry too.

As reported in The Extra last month, Fraser — author of The Foodies’ Guide to Glasgow and the West — set out to organise a celebration of Scottish produce, and could think of nowhere better than wife Laura’s hometown.

He told The Extra: “Like food, drinking has changed massively in Scotland. People want a beer with flavour, with a story. For me, it seemed silly to miss out on taking part.”

The festival has backing from Whole Foods and Yelp Glasgow, with live music, pub quizzes and a beer pong tournament on throughout the day.

Then, there’s the line up — on the beer front, that’s West, Drygate, Fyne Ales, Harvistoun, Franciscan Wells, Loch Ness, Sulwath and Top Out Brewery.

Bijou Wine will be on hand for the wine and prosecco drinkers, as will Thistly Cross cider, and food will be provided by the Bowl Food Truck, Galloway Chillies, Damn Fine Cheese, Mr C’s Pies and the Wee Fudge Company — with Glasgow favourite Burger Meats Bun taking centre stage.

Fraser added: “I wanted a large farmers market style event for the community, and I wanted my friends and family to be there to enjoy it.

“I can’t wait to showcase the best of Scottish, and to bring an event to one of our most beautiful conservation villages.”
