Glasgow 2014: The volunteers’ stories
The experiences of the many different volunteers who delivered the best ever Commonwealth Games will be commemorated in a new exhibition at the People’s Palace, Glasgow. Our City, Our Volunteers, Our Games will run until August 3, 2015. Co-curated by a group of Glasgow’s Host City Volunteers, it features archetypal objects from the city’s Commonwealth ‘journey’, including the only remaining costume of the Games mascot Clyde, an iconic teacake from the Opening Ceremony. Visitors are welcome to add their own experiences of the Games to the exhibit.
Also on exhibit are uniforms, photography and other memorabilia from the spectacular event.
Glasgow 2014 represented a step-change moment for Scotland’s biggest city. The prospect of being involved in the momentous event captured the imagination of thousands of people, who grasped the opportunity to volunteer for the first time.
Our Games celebrates their achievements
and their legacy by highlighting the benefits of volunteering. It also seeks to challenge pre-conceived ideas about who can be a volunteer.
