Hairspray is a big hit

AUDIENCES were transported back to 1960s America at Greenfaulds High School's production of Hairspray.

Talented students from S1 to S6, entertained a packed assembly hall, with songs from the Broadway musical.

Rehearsing since January, the hard work of teachers, pupils and patience of parents paid off in the five star performances.

Director Alan MacDonald said: "It went brilliantly. We decided on Hairspray for this year's show as we've had musicals in the last few years from the 70s, 80s and the 90s. Hairspray is a really popular musical so it was the perfect choice."

The three shows, which were held at the High School on Wednesday to Friday of last week, topped a busy term for the 42-strong cast, and was a fitting end to the school year.

Michael Ball was part of the touring production of Hairspray at Glasgow's SECC in May, which provided an opportunity for Greenfaulds' own stars to pick up some tips.

Alan continued: "I know a number of students went to see it in Glasgow and some were down in London with the school and checked out Hairspray, so were familiar with the stageshow.

"The response from the audience at our performances was overwhelmingly positive and people were very impressed at the high standard of the pupils."
