Have a go at the Corona

Talent old and new is lining up at The Butterfly and the Pig at the Corona as the new bar becomes a go-ticket on the southside music scene.

With 10 years of Southside Sessions under his belt, musician and Southside Fringe co-founder Crawford Smith has taken to the new venue like a duck to water (we’ll leave the butterfly and the pig metaphors aside for now) with a new open mic night every Tuesday.

Crawford commented: “We’re delighted to be celebrating 10 years of Southside Sessions, and hosting a new night at The Butterfly and the Pig is a great addition to the already-bustling live music scene in Shawlands.

“The quirky venue at the Corona is ideal for singers and bands of all styles, shapes and sizes and the customers really appreciate the talent that takes to the stage.”

Previous Southside Sessions acts have included singer-songwriter JJ Gilmour (of The Silencers fame) and Glasgow blues outfit The Fortunate Sons.

It also gave bluegrass and folksters Papa Shandy and The Drams their first ever gig — so there’s a pedigree to the performers Crawford has to hand already.

But, being an open mic night, it’s as much about new, up-and-coming acts — and all musicians are welcome along to try their hand on the B&P stage.

The Tuesday session is the latest go-to gig at the venue, with open mic and live bands lined up on Friday and Saturday nights too - all aimed at creating a relaxed, neighbourhood bar with decent tunes.
