Hellish Halloween events coming your way . . .

Have a suitably spooky Halloween, from all at The Extra

Here at The Extra, we pride ourselves on a bit of scary fun around Halloween — and this year, we brought on the chills a little earlier, spending the night at Govanhill Baths for an action-packed ghost hunt.

Did we find anything? Well, there was one case of a phantom hand trying to get our reporter’s attention...

Investigator Janice Murdoch-Richards, of Lanarkshire Paranormal, told The Extra: “We’re always guaranteed to hear bumps, bangs, footsteps — all sorts of things — at Govanhill Baths. It’s a great, spooky place.”

But Govanhill isn’t the only place haunted by ghosts of the past. There are plenty of spine-tingling tales around these parts, from the shadowy figures reported on the Subway between Shields Road and Kinning Park stations, to the ghosts of soldiers who fell at the 1568 Battle of Langside still marching through Queen’s Park.

If you’re still brave enough to venture out next weekend, here are a few of the events fit for a ghoulishly good time.

The Rum Shack has the honour of hosting the annual Day of the Dead Glesga for 2015, promising the spirit of Mexico on Friday, October 30. Expect a piñata-packed night with Rapido Mariachi, DJ Ewan Evans, aka Señor Poco Loco, and afterlife-loving performers.

Pollok House hosts a murder mystery, festering feast and putrid punch for The Butler Did It...Or Did He? on Saturday evening, while Lebowskis Pop Up plays host to a Southside Sessions Halloween Party — free entry, if you dare.

And if it’s all-out chills you’re after then you’ve probably already risked life and limb to get tickets to Scotland Street School’s Halloween ghost hunt.

The Scottish Ghosts Nights event is, unfortunately, sold out, but a spooky encounter might await for those lucky enough to be heading along, as the museum is often cited as one of Glasgow’s most haunted spots.

There are events for little ghouls and goblins too, from Holm of Halloween at Holmwood House this Saturday and Sunday (October 24-25) to Friday Fright Night at Whitelee (October 30) — see this week’s What’s On guide for more info.
