The Carrbridge singer/songwriter has defied the odds, taking a folky sound and using it to mix with pop bigwigs — her new EP was recorded in New York with Alex Newport, whose previous credits include work with Bloc Party and Frank Turner.

Rachel will be performing in the atmospheric surrounds of Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery, as part of the Glasgow-wide music festival — perhaps worth a trip to the westend.

Rachel Sermanni is on at 8pm on Friday, January 31. Tickets are £15 from www.celticconnections.com.
