Founded in 1996 as a dance class for people with disabilities, Independance has since established itself as an all-inclusive chance for people of all abilities — and their carers — to show off their potential through the medium of dance.

The Eastwood date is one of four for a quartet of young dancers — including Newton Mearns’ own Hayley Earlam, a former Eastwood high pupil.

The foursome have three shows on offer; the first, Goldfish, following the vivid imagination of Owen Moon as it begins to creep into his everyday life through his aquarium.

The second, Drifting (devised by Hayley and co alongside southsider Ramesh Meyyappan) follows a young boy in and out of sleep as the stresses and strains of family life take their toll on him.

And last up is Some of the Moments We Haven’t Forgotten, again devised by the troupe, directed by Christine Devaney and playing with notions of listening, dreaming and breathing together.

Independance appear at Eastwood Park Theatre next Thursday (November 7), before moving on to venues in Portree and Oban.

The performance kicks off at 7.30pm and tickets are £9-£13 from 577 4956 or www.eastwoodparktheatre.co.uk.
