Itchycoo Park to play at Cumbernauld’s Twa Corbies

THE next Redhouse Session at the Twa Corbies will feature internationally-touring Scottish band Itchycoo Park.

During nine appearances at the International Beatle Week in Liverpool they’ve played in The Cavern and other venues in and around Mathew Street, The Adephi Hotel - and even at the Jacaranda Club!! On their debut in Liverpool (at The Cavern) they played two back to back sell-out shows as The Bootleg Rutles, backing original Rutles members Neil Innes and John Halsey.

A highlight in 2003 was meeting and supporting the ‘fifth’ Beatle - Pete Best in one of his one-man shows in Scotland.

In 2004 they played in Sweden with Lawrence Macca and other bands including The Overtures; and a month later they had swopped hemispheres to play The Cavern again, but this time in Buenos Aires, Argentina as part of that venue’s annual South American Beatle Week.

Whilst there they made friends with local musicians including a band called The Mersey - who stay 300 miles from Buenos Aires, but play Gerry and The Pacemakers! In 2005 they went back to play the Beatle Week in Buenos Aires again, and met up with The Mersey in their home town of Santa Fe, to play a late night open air concert.

In 2006 the band travelled to Turkey to perform on ‘The Beach Bar Tour’, and in 2007, 2008, 2009, apart from many local gigs all over Scotland, they travelled to North America to play at the world’s biggest Beatle-inspired festival – Abbey Road on the River - in Louisville, Kentucky.

In 2010, whilst in America for Abbey Road on the River for a 4th year, they also travelled to Staten Island NYC (at the invite of good friends The Blue Meanies - NYC/NJ) to record an hour long TV special which was seen by over 2 million viewers! They then concluded their Stateside trip with dates in Massachusetts and back in NYC, Later in 2010, the band were invite to feature in the inaugural Abbey Road on the River event in Washington DC, swopping the banks of the Ohio for those of the Potomac!

This year, whilst continuing with gigs all over Scotland - including theatre venues - they are again (for the 5th year) to play a series of 9 shows during the 5 day Abbey Road on the River event in Louisville, Kentucky in late May and will return for a 2nd year to the east coast AROTR event in Washington DC in early September.

Closer to home, ITCHYCOO PARK have recently played their ‘Cellar to Rooftop’ Beatles only show at the Cumbernauld Theatre (in April) , and it has just been confirmed that ITCHYCOO PARK are to play the inaugural Scottish Beatles Weekend in Dundee (12-14Aug); but next weekend Cumbernauld folks can get a chance to groove to ‘sounds of the 60’s’ when the band return to The Twa Corbies on Friday June 10.
