Jagged little PiL . . .

MR LYDON is back on the road as Public Image Limited go on a nationwide tour which leads to a Glasgow gig tomorrow night.

In an era when contrived pop TV can elevate and demean at the same time (OK, the 70s had Opportunity Knocks, but nobody pretended it was of national importance), it’s easy to overlook the genuine impact and excitment the Sex Pistols generated in Britain.

Public Image Limited was Lydon’s first post-Pistols group and while they never had the profile (or notoriety) of the Pistols, they were a groundbreaking act .

So far, 2013 has already been a significant year for PiL, touring China for the first time; including dates in Australia and Japan.

The recent announcement that PiL will be appearing at Glastonbury is also a first for both PiL and John Lydon himself who have never performed at the festival before.

Widely regarded as one of the most innovative and influential bands of the post-punk/new wave sound, PiL’s music and vision earned them five UK Top 20 Singles and five UK Top 20 Albums.

With a shifting line-up, the only constant and founding member John Lydon guided the band from their debut album First Issue in 1978 through to 1992’s That What Is Not, before a 17 year hiatus. John then resurrected PiL
in 2009 playing live worldwide.
