King’s Theatre hosts haunting love story

A DIFFERENT kind of ghost appears at the King’s Theatre this week — and, far from being frightening, this is a tale of high romance.

Patrick Swayze fans will be very familiar with the story, as it’s based on the Oscar-winning film of the same name.

The 1990 flick, starring Swayze alongside Demi Moore and Whoopi Goldberg, picked up best original screenplay for Bruce Joel Rubin — and fortunately, he’s the man behind the musical version too.

Ghost follows ill-fated Sam, a ghost trapped between this world and the next, as he tries desperately to contact girlfriend Molly to tell her who murdered him.

Sam’s sidekick is a phoney psychic who has just realised she can actually converse with the dead — but will Molly listen to the message she has to give?

Anyone who has seen the film will know that one famous shot — a smouldering love scene between Sam and Molly, set to the tune of Unchained Melody (the film sparked a massive revival for the 50s hit too).

The musical version promises a go at the iconic song, as well as a host of other tunes to bring the 90s classic to life for a new generation.
