La Favorita Glasgow finally delivers

West coast pizza fans who’ve ventured further into Edinburgh than the zoo or even the castle know all too well that the original Leith eatery is a go-to foodie spot.

And so, when La Favorita announced plans to set up shop on Gibson Street, Glasgow gasped in delight at the thought of takeaways without a delivery charge the length of the M8.

It’s fair to say we’ve been holding our breath for a while now Glasgow — the question is, does the west end, west coast version live up to expectations?

It all looked very promising this week when your roving reviewer was let in for a sneak preview ahead of Wednesday’s opening.

With space to sit in upstairs and down and swanky interiors allowing for a grown up pizza party feel, La Fav is a far cry from those childhood birthday venues.

The grown up feel extends to wine, beer and cider available to sit in or for delivery. Prosecco and pizza? The menu encourages you time and again to treat yourself, and it’s very tempting, even while looking back from the far away lands of Extra Towers.

As for the main event, well — those log-fired pizzas speak for themselves. Having sampled more than a few slices of the action this week, I can heartily recommend; a crisp, authentic base, light on sauce and generous with good quality toppings.

For that inevitable next order, my money’s on the Vesuvio; salami Ventricina, free range chicken, peppers and chillies.

A sample of the signature Casarecce pasta dish went down well too; creamy-coated twists and chicken paired with al dente florets of broccoli.

With a reputation with our east coast foodie friends, La Favorita Delivered had a high task at hand — and it looks like it might just live up to its name.
