Library in line for exhibition

KILSYTH Library could be the venue for a historical exhibition being planned for October.

At last week's meeting of Kilsyth Community Council, members discussed possible sites with the input of Jenny Noble, social history curator for North Lanarkshire Council.

Original plans favoured Colzium House for the exhibit, which will show off memorabilia and artwork from the town's past, but some felt the location would not be ideal.

Chairman Scott Johnson said: "Colzium is the obvious one because the museum is already there. However, it's not in the centre of the town."

Member Margot MacMillan suggested that if the estate was to host the event then free transport may have to be provided.

Vice-chairman Jim Hutchison added: "To me Colzium is a lovely place for this sort of thing but it's two miles away from the town centre so people can't just drop in. I can't see people going up there unless it's a nice day."

A man sitting in the public gallery contributed: "I think the library is shouting out for it."

After further discussion, Jenny offered to find out if it would be possible for the exhibition to be based at the library and agreed to report back to the community council.
