Magic carpet for Pollok at Eastwood Park panto

You’ve seen the classic King’s show and taken your seats for The Hoff, but here’s a festive panto with more of a southside flavour — and on home turf too.

InsideOut Productions is back at Eastwood Park Theatre with a Glasgow twist on Aladdin, starring homegrown X Factor face Rikki Loney.

The setting isn’t quite as exotic as usual, taking place in a Pollok housing scheme — with Aladdin himself hailing from Anderston, Wishee Wishaw from deepest Lanarkshire and Widow Twankey as a window cleaner in Chateau Lait (or Castlemilk, to the rest of us).

On top of that, the Genie has been trapped in a back room at Shawlands nightclub The Shed for years — perhaps a nod to artistic director Paul Harper-Swan’s roots in Giffnock.

Paul commented: “We were at Eastwood Park last year with The Pure Amazing Wizard of Oz and it went down a storm.

“I’m excited to see what southside audiences think of this year’s panto. Our take on Aladdin is rather different and we’ve lots of singing, dancing, audience participation and — since it’s set in Scotland — plenty of good old Glasgow banter.”

Show Aladdin opens on Wednesday, December 16 and runs until December 22. To book, call 577 4956 or head to Eastwood Park Theatre.
