Merchant City steps back in time

The Merchant City Festival celebrates its 12th year with street art, music, dance, theatre, film, comedy, food and drink and more — not to mention the first ever Vintage Glasgow embedded within.

The fun kicked off yesterday (Wednesday), but the best is yet to come with a jam-packed weekend ahead.

Vintage Glasgow will include club events Let It Rock (50s), Charleston Brunch (20s), and the Vintage Sunday Social, as well as a Tiki bar.

Spread across Saturday and Sunday, there are fashion shows (including a Great Gatsby-themed catwalk with music from Glasgow’s own Lou Hickey), vintage makeovers, marketplaces, films and workshops galore — all guaranteed to transport you back to the golden age of your 
choosing.

Elsewhere at the fest, there are a total of 300 events across 11 venues.

Highlights include the Mono Family free for all — a four-day programme at the renowned indie venue geared towards young festivalgoers — and Burlesque at the Britannia, an Academy of Burlesque and Cabaret showcase going back to grassroots by performing at the historic music hall.

And of course, foodies can rejoice at the return of the markets outside — from Italian antipasti to continental wares, there’s plenty to tempt the tastebuds on the way to your new show.
