On a roll for a singalong — and monsters from the id

ROLLER skates at the ready at Eastwood park theatre this week – Eros musical society has been practising hard.

The East Ren group returns to the stage on Monday with Return to the Forbidden Plane, an all-singing, all-dancing and high-rolling show – with origins in Shakespeare no less.

The futuristic jukebox musical is a spoof of The Tempest and of course, the 1950s film Forbidden Planet.

Set in the 23rd century, the show follows the starship Albatross as it crash-lands on an unknown planet and discovers a banished scientist, his daughter and (what else?) their roller-skating robot.

Expect twists, turns and love triangles galore, as well as – you have been warned – audience participation.

Tracy Fraser, from Newton Mearns, is getting her skates on to play Ariel the robot. The mum-of-three told Live: “I had a pair of roller skates when I was very young, and I spent most of my weekends as a teenager at East Kilbride ice rink.

“To get back on a pair at the age of 33 is a bit of a challenge, but it has been worth it”.

The amateur thespian hopes that families of all ages will come along, and she added: “It’s a great, fun show with great classic 60s tunes – including some of my favourites, like Good Vibrations, Great Balls of Fire, Young Girl and She’s Not There”.

Pupils from East Ren schools have been offered discounted tickets for opening night, and the team will also donate a percentage of profits to St Vincent’s hospice in Howwood.

The spaceship departs from Eastwood park theatre on Monday at 7.30pm. Show runs until Saturday. Tickets cost £8-12 and are available from 577 4970.
