Once in a lifetime chance for Glasgow dancers

Re:Bourne and the Theatre Royal are on the hunt for young men aged 10-25 to take part in a collaborative community performance of Lord of the Flies, coming to the Glasgow stage June 11-14.

Choreographer Bourne’s adaptation of the brutal William Golding novel transfers the action from a deserted island to a deserted theatre, where a group of schoolboys find themselves alone — and in charge.

With no adults to tell them what to do, the youngsters create their own rules on the way to building their own civilisation — but the rituals become evermore disturbing and chaos looms in the wings.

Open sessions are being held at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland now — on Monday, April 14 (1.30pm for 10-15 years and 3.30pm for 16-25 years) as well as April 21 and 28 (6pm for 10-15 and 7.30pm 16-25) — and all are welcome, even if they’ve never danced before.

The project is also touring Glasgow schools — led by a team of dance ambassadors including former Eastwood High pupil Hayley Earlam, from Newton Mearns — and schools or organisations interested can arrange a free workshop until May 2.

Boys who have attended one of the workshops will be welcome to audition for Lord of the Flies on May 3 and 4 — and those chosen will join the professional New Adventures dancers on stage at the Theatre Royal in June.
