Panto? It’s a whizz...

PANTO season is fast approaching — but first, students at Glasgow Clyde College get to show off their talents with their own Christmas show.

The stage stars of tomorrow — second year HND acting and performance students — are at the new super college’s Langside campus theatre for The Wizard of Oz – Dorothy’s Wonderful Visit to Oz.

It’s a festive spin on the classic film and stage show — with more than a little slapstick thrown in (it just wouldn’t be panto without it now, would it?)

The aim is to introduce new talent to Glasgow audiences, with second year student Jamie Leary taking on the role of Dorothy, Mark Barrett as Toto and Kenny Fullwood as the Scarecrow.

Catching them on the way up is no bad idea either, as previous Langside alumni have gone on to secure roles in big US television productions like current big hit Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD (Iain de Caestecker) and one of the most successful serials in recent years, Breaking Bad (Laura Fraser).

Wizard of Oz director David Lee-Michael explained: “The show has been developed to enable all our students to be involved and gain real-life experience of working on a production.

“First year HND students help with the props and stage, while the second year students star in the show.

“Everyone involved has been working day and night for the last few weeks to get the show ready, and we can’t wait to perform to a packed theatre in December.”

The family fun kicks off next Friday and Saturday (December 6-7), with another two shows planned for December 13-14.

Tickets for The Wizard of Oz – Dorothy’s Wonderful Visit to Oz are £11.50 adult, £8.50 concession and £32 for a family ticket, available from 429 0022 or www.patronbase.com/_CitzExtra.
