Pic of the Week: Pollok House, by David Hendry

I wanted to get a picture of Pollok House with the lovely geometric shapes of the box hedge in the east garden.

It is quite difficult to get it all in so I used an ultra wide angle zoom lens.

The low winter sun was tending to cause a lot of flare, so by moving to the corner I could block the direct sunlight with the trees seen on the left of the picture.

The hedges look as if they are covered in frost but this picture is taken by capturing the infrared light emitted by the sun.

Green foliage tends to reflect a lot of infrared light so always makes green plants look very light.

Sony Alpha 100 with Sigma 10-20mm wide angle. 1/80 sec at f/10, ISO 100, 720nm filter.
