Pic of the Week: Sunrise, Lake Matheson by Ken Lindsay

Rising before dawn I made my way around the shores of Lake Matheson lying on the west coast of South Island New Zealand.

As the sun came up, Mount Cook and Mount Tasman provided a wonderful backdrop to the misty lake.

The scene was complete when a heron flew back and forward, silhouetted against the sunlit lake.

The image was captured with a Nikon D3 and a 70 – 200mm zoom lens at 86mm. With an aperture of f/11 to obtain a good depth of field, an ISO of 800 allowed a shutter speed of 1/500 sec, fast enough to freeze the movements of the bird.
