Pic of the Week: Wheely Pushing It by Ken Wilkie

This shot was taken at the annual visit of the British Touring Car Championship at Knockhill circuit in Fife.

The difficult part is maintaining focus as the car moves towards you as there is a time delay between deciding to take the shot, pressing the shutter and the photo being taken, during which the car will have moved forwards several feet.

This is minimised by taking a “burst” of images at a high shutter speed to freeze the forward movement of the car.

Every so often one of the drivers misjudges the corner and ends up on two wheels; quick reactions are required to catch the shot while the car is airborne.
