Proud to be LGBT

The festival — kicking off on Saturday — will be centred around King Street in the city centre, where a variety of entertainers will take to the streets or perform at neraby venues for what is now the largest LGBT celebration in Scotland.

Sisters are clearly doing it for themselves, as this year’s Glasgow Pride is headlined by Heather Peace, Amelia Lily, Angie Brown, and Lucy Spraggan.

Peace, of Waterloo Road fame, recently performed an intimate gig at Glasgow’s AXM club. Heather has always considered music her ‘first love’ and is a mainstay of gay rights advocacy.

Angie Brown’s back catalogue, meanwhile, reads like a who’s who of anyone but The Who. A highly-regarded session vocalist, Brown has worked with Kate Bush, The Rolling Stones, and Stereophonics — to name a few.

Amelia Lily came third in 2011’s X Factor — and it could be said that she’s done better than winners Little Mix who, despite a massive tour, have failed to secure as much artistic regard.

An addition to Pride this year is a cabaret tent featuring musicians, comedians, burlesque, drag artists and dance.

Lucy Spraggan, also of X Factor fame, rounds off the main stage with her own brand of hip hop and acoustic folk.

Let’s face it — regardless of the line up, the thousands of entertainers and audience members from Glasgow’s LGBT community will be the true stars making this event a must-see.
