Restaurant review: a case of old -fashioned manners
The service, atmosphere and decor is old-fashioned — without feeling at all dated.

Hide AdWhile the menu undoubtedly has a modern twist, there is something intrinsically appealing about dining in a restaurant which takes you back to a different era.
Despite the traditional vibe, Glasgow menu mainstays such as the inescapable scallops and black pudding (outside of a curry house, you would struggle to find a menu in the city without that combination) remain.
The menu was completely different to my expectations, being neither particularly old-fashioned, nor French.

Hide AdFor my starter, I opted for hot and sour soup with jumbo prawns.
Although far from what I expected from the menu, it was no less delicious, and would have seemed at home at oriental favourite Asia Style, just along the road at Charing Cross.
It was followed by an incredible fillet of hake, cooked to absolute perfection, crusted with garlic and herbs and dressed with peppers and olives.

Hide AdAfter being quite conservative with both my starter and main, eschewing some of the more filling options, I left room for a dessert.
To finish, I chose iced banana parfait with rum and raisin ice cream. This came with crushed pistachios sprinkled over the ice cream; a creative dessert to end a great meal.
While the food was wonderful, what really stood out was the service — second to none in terms of what I have experienced anywhere else in Glasgow.

Hide AdWith the atmosphere of an era gone by, combined with a very modern menu, La Bonne Auberge is a dichotomy — but one which clearly works well.
