Sculpture still looking for a name

THERE'S only three weeks left for you to have your say in the naming of the stunning sculpture which aims to put Cumbernauld on the map.

It is the handiwork of international public artist Andy Scott.

Last week we launched our exciting new competition which will give a Cumbernauld News reader the opportunity to name this lovingly crafted lady who stands at 10 metres tall!

She will be officially unveiled in late summer and will loom large over the A80 northbound, just north of Auchenkilns Junction.

Everything is going to plan as the artist pieces her together in his Maryhill-based studio – but his magnificent creation lacks just one key element - her name.

Entrants have until July 30 to send in their suggestions. The competition is open to all Cumbernauld residents of any age living in the Cumbernauld area.

Cumbernauld residents interested in submitting their suggested names should consider the following:

• What name would make you proud?

• What name do you feel encapsulates/represents Cumbernauld?

• What name will be iconic and recognisable?

• What name will be remembered?

Cumbernauld residents should email suggestions to [email protected] and include their name, age, address and telephone number.

As we know that not everyone has internet access, we have also arranged for entries to be submitted by post to: Campsies Centre Cumbernauld Ltd, Floor 5, Fleming House, 2 Tryst Road, Cumbernauld G67 1JW.

The sculpture is the brainchild of Campsies Centre Cumbernauld Ltd (CCCL) – a special purpose company established by North Lanarkshire Council to facilitate the redevelopment of Cumbernauld.
