Serenade for a summer night

CUMBERNAULD Male Voice Choir treated locals to A Summer Seranade at Kildrum Parish Church - but also hit the right note with young music makers after inviting no fewer than FIVE local schools to join them.

Last Wednesday night’s concert, under the baton of John Seggie was judged to be a spectacular success - and no more so than during a rousing finale which ended to the strains of Doh-Ray-Me.

Carbrain, Baird Memorial, Whitelees, Cumbernauld and Kildrum Primaries shared the stage with the more seasoned chorusters plus ace accompanist Aileen Kelly.

And with the proceeds just in, we can reveal that the event raised a whopping £1000 for charity into the bargain.

There is a poignant note to the choice of that charity - as it had provided vital support to a member of the choir who passed away at a tragically young age. Secretary Elsa Barclay said: “This was David Crooks who was just 25 when he died of a brain tumour. The organisation we are giving the money to is the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Trust who had been a big help to David.

“We were very pleased too that David’s mum and dad were able to attend the concert. It was a really wonderful night and it was great to have the schools taking part too,” she added.

Nor is Cumbernauld Male Voice Choir content to rest on its laurels.For members are gearing up for a groundbreaking appearance at the Royal Highland Show on June 24..We’ll have more details on this story next week.
