Songs to sink your teeth into

Okay, so Kelvinbridge may not be your idea of mean streets — but use your imagination, as the new Websters Theatre hosts Insideout Productions’ take on Little Shop of Horrors.

The company — headed by southsider Paul Harper-Swan — has wowed Glasgow audiences with shows like Company, The Pure Amazing Wizard of Oz, as well as regular A Song, A Sip and a Sandwich nights.

Now, Paul turns his attention to a spot of doo-wop — not to mention a killer plant with an attitude (but a lovely singing voice).

The musical follows down-on-his-luck florists assistant Seymour, who has discovered a plant with unsual tastes.

The object of Seymour’s affection is Audrey — but unfortunately, she’s preoccupied with her sadistic dentist boyfriend (played by Britain’s Got Talent star and Insideout favourite Edward Reid).

Will Seymour get his girl? Or will the mean, green Audrey II take over the world first?

It’s a return to a much-loved musical for director Paul, who first played Seymour in his sixth year at St Ninian’s High.

The venue may be westend, but there’s a further southside connection, with Glasgow Philharmonia — founded by Williamwood’s Ross Gunning — providing orchestral backing.

Southsiders galore, Motown-esque music and a man-eating plant who can belt out a mean tune — all reasons to brave a trip to the sticks.
