David Patrick is a Scottish pianist, and BBC Radio Scotland said his “virtuosity at the keyboard is matched only by his skills as an arranger and composer of the highest calibre”.

It is his reworking for a jazz octet of Igor Stravinsky’s 1913 masterwork The Rite of Spring, which will be performed in Biggar, retaining all of the themes and almost all of the orchestration of the original composition.

Critics have described live performances of the piece as a triumph and “a brash and brilliant homage”.

With personnel drawn from Scotland, England and Germany, this international group is a world-class ensemble.

Patrick’s stylish contemporary piano-playing has always worked hand in hand with his arranging and composition skills, whether writing for the dark contemporary edge of the Scottish Jazz Composers’ Orchestra, or the smooth swing-feel of jazz singers.

The programme is completed with original jazz compositions for the octet by Patrick himself.
