The Digzys’ first festival

CUMBERNAULD band The Digzys are looking forward to playing their first music festival.

The Digzys first appeared on the scene a few years ago and gathered a good following, playing in venues such as O2 Academy, King Tuts, The Cavern in Liverpool, but the band ultimately split up.

However, around six months ago lead singer and ex-professional Eminem lookalike Mark Garment reformed the band with two new members – drummer Stu Buchanan and another friend, Ross Gibbon. “It’s great. The guys who are in the band now are better musicians than the ones before, so our sound is better and we’ve already played some great gigs and gotten nice reviews. We’re pretty well known around the Glasgow area,” he said.

This growing fame landed them a slot at the 2012 Stereofunk festival at Strathclyde Country Park, Motherwell, on May 6. They will be appearing on the Unsigned Live stage.

“We’re really excited to go to our first festival,” said Mark. “It should be great and could be a chance to get spotted as well.”

If you’d like a chance to see The Digzys in action before going to Stereofunk, they have a gig lined up at Tivo Tivo in Glasgow this Friday, and will also perform at a new city centre venue, Stairway, on April 14.

The Digzys are also working hard on recording material - watch this space for more details.

Mark also told us what life was like as an Eminem tribute: “I wouldn’t say it didn’t have its good points, girls liked it for one thing. I got some work out of it and was recognised everywhere I went and got a few auditions in London too, but there was another guy getting most of the work and eventually I stopped doing it and let my hair grow out again.”

Tickets for Stereofunk (standard tickets £25, VIP tickets £35) are available from numerous locations including Cheers in Condorrat. See www.stereofunkevents.com for more.
