Tonic for the troops as Soldiers open season

OPENING the 2012 season at Motherwell Concert Hall are the Soldiers, with a performance this weekend.

In 2009 the Soldiers - Ryan Idzi, Richie Maddocks and Gary Chilton - became the first group of serving military personnel to hit the British pop charts. Their two albums, the double platinum-selling Coming Home and follow-up top ten hit Letters Home, sold more than 800,000 and raised over £500,000 for army charities. Along the way they have performed for Her Majesty the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance and the Festival of Remembrance, two years running.

Not bad for a “weekend job” as the lads are also war heroes, having served in Afghanistan, Iraq and Kuwait amassing a considerable number of medals between them, and could be called back to active duty at any time.
