Window to the Past: Mearns Kirk

THEY were the stuff of legends: the knights who answered primarily to God and were feared by kings across Europe.

They started the first rudimentary banks and promised safe passage to those travelling to the Holy Land of Jerusalem: but why do they appear to have a stone in the grounds of Mearns parish kirk?

The Knights Templar had owned land known as Capelrig near to the site back in the 12th century and it is probable this is a clue as to why the stone was found nearby.
